Validator Delegation Program

The Silicon Valley Digital Development Foundation’s Validator Delegation Program helps developers and teams that consistently contribute to the BTBChain ecosystem become validators who secure the network.

About the program

Helping ecosystem contributors secure the network

These developers and teams have contributed to BTBChain over time and understand the network’s real needs, making them well placed to operate validator nodes. They share the foundation’s goals: a more decentralized, reliable and performant BTBChain.

01

Improve BTBChain’s decentralization, reliability and performance

02

Help more validators secure stake independently of the foundation

03

Maintain a sufficiently large and representative testnet

Program support

Supporting sustained validator participation

01

Testnet participation

Participants must keep their testnet nodes running at an acceptable performance level.

Performance requirementMeet the criteria in at least 5 of the last 10 epochs to qualify for mainnet support and delegation.

02

Voting cost subsidy

The foundation subsidizes validators’ voting costs on mainnet.

Performance requirementMeet the current stake-matching threshold.

03

Stake matching

The foundation matches a proportion of the stake validators attract from outside the foundation.

04

Residual delegation

The foundation delegates the remaining stake needed to reach the target stake amount.

Performance requirementMeet the residual-delegation threshold and the required average block-production performance over 5 consecutive epochs.

Participation process

From application to ongoing participation

  1. 01

    Create identity keys

Generate validator identity keys for testnet and mainnet.

  2. 02

    Submit an application

Apply to the Validator Delegation Program.

  3. 03

    Review and notification

The foundation reviews the application and notifies you of the result.

  4. 04

    Run a testnet node

Start your testnet validator and begin voting.

  5. 05

    Join the delegation queue

Enter the testnet delegation queue in registration order.

  6. 06

    Build a performance record

Begin producing blocks and maintain a performance record.

  7. 07

    Receive reward stake

Receive reward stake based on testnet performance.

  8. 08

    Attract external stake

Seek stake from the community, stake-pool operators and other delegators while continuing to contribute to the ecosystem.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a validator before applying?

No. The program helps ecosystem contributors become validators. You only need the technical ability to operate a node when applying.

How is testnet performance measured?

Voting and block-production performance are measured over the last 10 epochs.

How long does delegation last?

Delegation is reviewed periodically. Validators who fail to meet performance requirements have their delegation adjusted or withdrawn in the next period.

Can the foundation withdraw its delegation at any time?

Yes. Delegation is not an indefinite commitment and requires continued compliance with performance criteria.

Can I reapply after a rejection?

Yes. You may submit a new application after making improvements.
